YAYA Inspired Art Chairs

In 2015 I took a group of students to New Orleans to have an immersive experience at non-profit YaYa. Artist Rondell Crier connected us and we spent a couple days learning glass blowing, ceramics, and their history of making artistic chairs as a fundraiser. From this experience, we chose a select magnet school and, as fundraiser for their art department, we created 9 one of a kind art chairs for auction.

YAYA Art Chairs

YAYA Inspired

Our students workshopped with the “YAYA’s” and learned compelling ways to see a chair as blank canvas for a conceptual idea. We took these workshops and applied them to our own middle school classes to help them create their own YAYA inspired designs!

Students created their own original designs and over the course of 3 weeks actualized their initial concepts into one of a kind functional artworks.
